Expert names next two West Ham signings as second deal close after Nayef Aguerd news
West Ham should now look to strengthen their midfield and forward line after completing a deal for Nayef Aguerd, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England Under-21s striker insisted West Ham need to sign a replacement for Mark Noble and sign cover for Michail Antonio.
The Hammers confirmed on Monday (20 June) that they had signed Aguerd, 26, from Rennes on a five-year contract.
ExWHUEmployee reported after the deal was completed that the club will now turn their attention to 17-year-old midfielder Patrick Kelly of Coleraine who flew into London on Sunday (19 June) to finalise terms.
And Whelan insisted their business should not be done there if they want to improve on their seventh-place finish in the 2021-22 season.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “The centre-back one was they were always looking at West Ham.

“Now that Noble has hung his boots up I think you’ve got to look to replace him and brig in another midfield player there.
“Then definitely another striker. Antonio proved that he can but he shouldn’t go through the whole season playing every single game pretty much.
“You need help because fatigue sets in, your standards might drop and you might go through a little phase in the season where you’re not hitting the back of the net as regularly as you were.
“You need people to keep you competitive, you need to keep people on your toes to keep you alive so you know if you have a bad game there is someone to step in.
“That midfield and striker area is somewhere they need to look to strengthen and have more options.”
