Fabian Schar steps towards Newcastle exit as scout mission opens up bargain deal for Brazilian gem Viery

Fabian Schar’s time at Newcastle United may effectively be over as the club are now eyeing up new centre-back targets for this summer.

The Swiss international is out of contract at St James’ Park in the summer, and there has been little indication in recent weeks that he will be offered the chance to extend his stay on Tyneside.

The veteran’s exit this summer is now at the stage where it is looking more likely with every passing week, given that Eddie Howe and Co. have now got their eyes fixed on potential replacements.

Gremio starlet Viery has now emerged as the next starlet on the Magpies’ radar, and they could be able to get him for as little as £11.3million this summer, according to Zero Hora.

Newcastle’s transfer plans are set to see them try to strengthen their hand again in the summer, while that could mean that Schar is ultimately shown the door.

Newcastle pushing for Viery deal as scout sent to Brazil

Viery looks set to potentially become the next Brazilian gem to make the switch to Europe and take his career to the next level, with Newcastle keen to land him this summer.

The 20-year-old has a release clause set at the £43million mark in his contract, but Gremio may be prepared to let him go at a hugely reduced price this summer.

Zero Hora have suggested that Newcastle have even sent a scout to watch the youngster live in recent weeks, due to their interest being matched by Lille and Bologna.

It may only take an offer in the region of £11m to bring Gremio to the negotiating table, and at that sort of price, Newcastle are surely extremely likely to try and accelerate their interest.

However, any move for Viery could potentially be the final nail in the coffin for Schar, as it would mean a much more youthful option coming into the squad in his position.

The fact that Howe and Co. are clearly trying to add in the centre-back department tells everything there is to know regarding the future of Schar, especially considering that Newcastle won’t have to do any work to offload him.

Eddie Howe may be disappointed over Fabian Schar

Football Insider revealed at the start of March that Howe is keen for Schar to get a new deal before the end of the season, as he feels that he still has a role to play in his plans for next season.

The 34-year-old is expected to have offers on the table from elsewhere if he does leave St James’, but that is an eventuality that the boss is keen to avoid.

However, he may have to prepare himself for disappointment in the coming weeks, as the club hierarchy have potentially already left it too late for a deal to be agreed.

The former Hoffenheim man has been an excellent servant to the Geordies across his almost eight years with the club, but unless there is a drastic change of stance in the coming weeks, then he looks set to move on.
