Aston Villa are the latest side to express an interest in signing Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, according to a report.
The Daily Record claims that the Championship side, who are undoing severe financial issues, are still interested in getting a deal done for the 23-year-old.
A host of clubs have been linked with McGinn, with Celtic and Rangers prominently featured in the battle to sign the Scottish international.
The Scottish Sun reported a few weeks ago that McGinn was on a shortlist of potential Celtic signings whilst last month the Daily Record reported that Steven Gerrard and Mark Allen were interested in making the player one of their biggest signings of the new era at Ibrox.
Football Insider verdict
It has to be said, that it does seem a tad unlikely that Aston Villa, with all their financial issues, will be the team that lands John McGinn in what looks like being one of the most protracted transfer stories of the summer. The reluctance of either Celtic or Rangers to make a bid for the player has been quite odd, perhaps they have been put off by the notion that Hibernian reportedly want £5million for a player whose contract runs out at the end of next season. In any case, it seems that it will be all quiet on the McGinn front until the first bid is made for the player, and only time will tell if that bid is made by either of the Glasgow giants. McGinn will want his future decided sooner rather than later, as he won’t be happy not knowing where he is going to be spending the next few years of his career, which could well be the most important years, as he comes into his prime as a player.
