Newcastle United fans have expressed their mixed opinions after the club confirmed that defending duo Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune would be out for a number of weeks following injuries sustained during Sunday’s clash against Tottenham.
Both players were forced off the pitch at St. James’ Park in the first half of the match with 25-year-old Dummett managing just a few minutes of the game before sustaining a hamstring problem.
Meanwhile new signing Lejeune, 26, came off half an hour into his debut with ankle ligament damage after a questionable tackle from Harry Kane.
The Magpies confirmed on their official Twitter account on Tuesday that both defenders would be “out of action for a number of weeks”.

A number of Toon fans expressed their disappointment of Lejeune’s absence from the squad after a promising performance during his debut, while some supporters surprisingly seemed happy that Dummett wouldn’t be featured for the next few games.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Lejeune will be missed but I ain't gonna cry over Dummet, a mannequin could do a better job than him

The duos’ injuries means it’s likely for them to miss Newcastle’s next Premier League fixtures against Huddersfield and West Ham, in addition to the Magpies’ Carabao Cup tie with Championship side Nottingham Forest.
Dummett and Lejeune’s absence will add further frustration to boss Rafa Benitez who is already struggling with limited options for his squad.
It’s likely that the Toon manager will be eager to sign up some new recruits in the closing weeks of the transfer window after their unimpressive return to the top flight.
In other Newcastle United news, the club are close to securing their sixth signing of the transfer window.
