Medical complete: Newcastle on verge of sixth summer signing - Sky Sports

Newcastle are on the verge of completing the signing of striker Joselu from Stoke, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [01:36pm] that the 27-year-old has completed his medical and agreed personal terms with the Tyneside club.
It is understood that around £5million will be spent from Rafa Benitez’s much-crticised budget to complete what will be Newcastle’s sixth signing of the summer.
Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Jacob Murphy and Mikel Merino are the Magpies’ existing summer recruits and it seems that Joselu will officially join that list soon.
The former Spain Under-21 international joined Stoke in 2015 from Hannover in a deal worth £5.75million, but after just one season at the Staffordshire club he was shipped out on loan to Deportivo.

Injuries plagued most of the striker’s season in Spain last time out, but he still managed to score six goals in 24 appearances across all competitions, including a brace against his former side Real Madrid in October.
Football Insider Verdict
Benitez looks like he has been drawn into panic-buying with the purchase of Joselu. The Spanish forward has a poor goal scoring record in the Premier League with Stoke and he did nothing last season with Deportivo to show that he still has it in him to regularly find the net at the top level. Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic of Newcastle’s other options up front, and even though neither of them are seen as being prolific in the Premier League, they are both probably better that Joselu. The former Real Madrid striker is also prone to injuries and that doesn’t bode well when Gayle is also susceptible to spells on the sidelines.
