Newcastle fans have been left worried after their new centre-back Florian Lejeune had his Premier League debut cut short following a nasty tackle from Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
Rafa Benitez’ side had a difficult start in their campaign opener at St. James’ Park after the Magpies were forced to make two defensive substitutions within the first half of the 2-0 loss to title contenders Spurs.
After just a few minutes of playing time, left-back Paul Dummett was seen clutching his hamstring and was substituted for skipper Jamaal Lascelles, while Lejeune was replaced by Chancel Mbemba.
The new French centre-back picked up his injury just 30 minutes into the game when he received a blow to his ankle which left him limping off the pitch and unable to put weight on it.
Fans instantly took to social media to express their concerns for Lejeune and supporters commented on how the club’s new signing displayed an impressive performance along the backline before limping to the dug out.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The injuries will add further frustration to Benitez who has clearly stated his problems over the lack of signings and fit squad members.
Deandre Yedlin, who is out with a hamstring problem, is another defender who is currently on the sidelines at the moment, adding to Benitez’s headache.
The new injuries could force Benitez to make a few late signings before the transfer window closes in August.
In other Newcastle United news, the club have agreed the terms of a defender transfer as their whirlwind of activity continues.
