'No place in our club', 'Disgrace' – Rangers fans rage after official club comments

Rangers director Alastair Johnston scored an own goal with Rangers fans everywhere when he said in an interview that the club was ahead of where they should be.

Talking in the The Scottish Sun, Johnston said: “You have to look back. The fans have been terrific, as I would have expected them to be, to hang in there and hopefully they will be rewarded.

“In terms of looking forward from where we were four or five years ago at the bottom, the progress that has been gradually made, we are probably ahead of the curve in reality if we finish second or third.”

He probably meant well, but these words went down like a bucket of hot lead on the heads of loyal Rangers fans.

It’s been a season of turmoil that promised light at the end of the tunnel, but ultimately snatched it away with the heavy 4-0 defeat in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Speculation over the manager’s position, and suspensions to Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace, have meant the season has ended in farce, and the runner-up spot in the Premiership is still not guaranteed.
