Liverpool have finally agreed a deal to sell midfielder Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for a fee believed to be worth £142million, according to a report.
It has been reported in the Telegraph that the attacker is on his way to Barcelona and will watch the La Liga giants in their match against Levante on Sunday
And it is a transfer that has left the Liverpool faithful reacting with defiance. They believe that no player is bigger than the club while one even questioned Coutinho’s behaviour leading up to the move.
It was thought that the Brazilian was going to leave Anfield last summer when rumours were rife of an impending departure.
But a deal never came off and despite concerns that the player would not give his all for the Reds, he has been one of their best and most consistent performers this season.
Coutinho has scored 12 goals in 24 appearances for the Reds across all competition this season – prolific.
The transfer does mean that the 25-year-old will not be able to appear for the Catalonian side in the Champions League after having already played for Liverpool in the competition.
Here is what supporters of the Reds have been saying in light of the transfer news:
Coutinho is not big than Liverpool #Coutinho #LFC #YNWA

Remember when some Liverpool fans said that Klopp's presence would attract classy players and we wouldn't be a selling club anymore. Coutinho going to Barcelona midway through the season and Emre Can leaving on a free to Juventus.
Back to square one

Coutinho transfer will hurt but it is not as big as Suarez or Torres.
Liverpool fans have seen much much worse. This is manageable tbh— Dagger (@aakash_LFC) January 6, 2018
Honestly don’t get Coutinho leaving now half way through the season, madness and would’ve thought he respected the club more than to get off when we could possibly need him for the rest of the season? I don’t think some Liverpool fans understand just how good he is 🤷🏻♂️

We don’t need you anyways @Phil_Coutinho

Would be amazed if #coutinho passes his medical to be honest. Always injured in January and from 1st July to 30 September for some reason.
Big loss to #LFC but he has acted like a 🐍 to force this through, don't need that at our club.
