Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Wijnaldum display against Watford
By Emma Sanders
Georginio Wijnaldum scored his first Liverpool goal on Sunday – and fans reacted with delight on Twitter.
The 25 year-old rounded off a 6-1 demolition of Watford at Anfield by scoring a 91st minute goal after coming on as a late substitute.
Wijnaldum was left out of the starting XI for the third consecutive league match as Emre Can retained his place in central midfield following Liverpool’s 4-2 victory against Crystal Palace last Saturday.
The Dutchman, who has made 10 league appearances for the Reds since joining for £25 million from Newcastle in the summer, has failed to win back his place since missing the goalless draw against Manchester United with a hip injury.
But such was Liverpool’s dominance on Sunday that Wijnaldum replaced Sadio Mane after 62 minutes and was given the chance to play in a more advanced role.
Anfield supporters on social media were delighted that the Dutchman had finally broken his Liverpool duck.
