'Fantastic professional' - PL manager raves about Rangers attacker
Brighton manager Chris Hughton has raved about new Rangers signing Jamie Murphy after leaving the Premier League club – calling him a “fantastic professional.”
Murphy has agreed a season-long loan deal with the Ibrox giants which is expected to become a permanent deal in the summer after falling down the pecking order at the Amex.
The 28-year-old attacker joined Brighton from Sheffield United and was a big part of their promotion push last season but has struggled for games in the Premier League for the south coast side.
Hughton thanked Murphy for his efforts for the club and admitted they couldn’t stand in the way of a move to his boyhood heroes.
“Jamie is a great lad, a fantastic professional and has a desire to play – and while we were in no hurry to see him leave, we do understand his desire to play for his boyhood team and one of the biggest clubs in Scotland,” the Premeir League manager said, as quoted by Brighton’s official website.
“He’s been excellent for the club, ever since we signed him from Sheffield United, and wrote himself into club folklore as a crucial part of our promotion-winning side last season.
“On behalf of all at the club, I’d like to thank Jamie for his efforts and achievements during his time here and wish him the very best for the future.”
Murphy becomes the Gers second signing of the January window after QPR midfielder Sean Goss agreed a season-long loan move to Ibrox last week.
Murphy will now jet out and join his new team-mates at their training camp in the United States before facing Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro in the Florida Cup next week.
During his time with Brighton, Murphy made 83 appearances, scoring 10 times and contributing nine assists.
The former Motherwell and Sheffield United winger is expected to make his competitive debut for the Gers when they face Highland League minnows Fraserburgh on January 21st in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
In latest Rangers news, Gers fans have blasted the Ibrox board for their handling of Murphy’s transfer.
