Buried in the aftermath of Brendan Rodgers’ revelation that Tom Rogic is set to be out until March, was the news that Leigh Griffiths is set to miss some games with after twisting his ankle.
The news is the latest setback to a player who has struggled to find a place in the Celtic side after starting the season as the number one striker.
Griffiths was able to take advantage of Moussa Dembele’s injury at the start of the season to score memorable goals against Anderlecht and Rangers, but since the return of Dembele his form has tailed off and he has found himself no longer the main striker.
The emergence of Odsonne Edouard has also had an impact on Griffiths, as the on-loan PSG striker started a series of games in December whilst Griffiths was left on the bench.
The 27-year-old returned to the first-team and scored against Dundee on Boxing Day, but he was back on the substitutes bench for the Old Firm derby.
One thing that could have an impact on Griffiths’ future is if Moussa Dembele leaves in January, if he does then the Scottish international has a good chance of getting a run in the team again.
If Dembele stays for the rest of the season Griffiths may end up on the bench once more when he returns from injury.
