Fikayo Tomori to Newcastle: O’Rourke shares update today

Newcastle United are considering a move for AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Eddie Howe still wants to bring in a central defender.

The Magpies have been searching for a centre-back since the summer when the club failed to buy Marc Guehi, despite making several bids.

Howe still wants to improve his defensive options and the former Chelsea graduate has been identified as an option.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that a lot will depend on what the Italian giants want to do with him.

The 27-year-old made the move to the San Siro in 2021 and is under contract with the Serie A side until 2027.

Fikayo Tomori might not be an option for Newcastle

The England international had fallen out of the AC Milan team earlier this season, as he has only featured nine times in the league.

However, the recent managerial change that has seen Sergio Conceicao take over the team has led to a clean slate for everyone.

Tomori was put back into the team for the Italian Super Cup semi-final and he was in the starting lineup for the final against Inter Milan as well.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe applauding

His recent reintroduction to the squad could make a deal less likely in the January transfer window as Conceicao looks to give everyone a chance to impress.

Newcastle might need to look elsewhere and continue to cast their net wider as the search for a defender continues.
