Finance Guru: Man United could be about to seal ‘lucrative’ new commercial deal after talks held
Man United could secure “a lucrative” new partnership worth millions a season after talks with trading platform Binance.
That is according to finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Premier League giants utilising the “unlimited potential” of commercial revenue.
The Times‘ Martyn Ziegler reported (3 December) Man United have held talks with trading platform, Binance, about a possible partnership.
It comes after Ziegler reported that the Premier League is set to investigate clubs’ relationship with cryptocurrency providers.
In their annual accounts for last year, United boasted commercial revenue of £232.2million.
Plumley claimed United are “front and centre” when it comes to commercial income.
“If it does take off, and we have seen deals done already, it can be quite lucrative,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“It is no surprise to see clubs looking to push their revenues further, especially from a commercial aspect, that is unlimited potential at the minute. There is no restrictions on the amount of commercial deals you can sign.
“Manchester United are front and centre when it comes to signing commercials deals. They have got something like 35 or more official partnerships and brands all over the world. That is despite the fact that they have not been highly successful in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
“In terms of numbers, it is tough. I have not seen any figures behind the crypto deals so I would compare against a previous betting example. Looking at previous deals, you’d expect it to be around the £3.5million mark.
“When you look at United’s revenue, which is somewhere around £600million, £3.5million does not represent a lot but it can go a long way. When you multiply that out among 35 partners, you are in the region of tens to hundreds of millions.”
