Finance guru: Nottingham Forest looking to ‘retain leverage’ after behind-the-scenes stance revealed

Nottingham Forest are aligning themselves with the Premier League’s Big Six to “curry favour” in years to come.

That is the view of football finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the newly-promoted side’s plans behind the scenes.

According to the Daily Mail‘s Matt Hughes (12 August), Nottingham Forest are taking a conscious decision to align themselves with the Big Six clubs in shareholder meetings.

It will result in Forest siding with England’s biggest teams on issues and could disrupt the balance of power in the division.

The number of votes required for a proposal to be passed is currently 14.

When asked why Nottingham Forest were likely taking such a stance in their first season back in the top-flight, Plumley told Football Insider: “I think the why question is fairly straight forward to answer.

“They want to align themselves with the big boys because they are the ones who hold the most sway. How often do we see the Big Six push things in their direction a bit? That is the nature of the league at the moment.

“Forest may be trying to curry favour with the bigger clubs.

“They will be hoping they stay in the Premier League but if they don’t, the relationship is still good enough so there is some leverage to retain in the future. That would be the play on it for me.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Nottingham Forest are building a ‘major alliance’ amid behind-the-scenes latest.
