Financial details emerge as Man City make Gianluigi Donnarumma and Ederson deals
Manchester City are set to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG, while Ederson is closing in on a move to Fenerbahce.
As Pep Guardiola looks to freshen his goalkeeping options, Man City have eyed a move for Donnarumma, which is now nearing its completion on transfer deadline day on Monday, 1 September.
The Etihad Stadium club have already signed goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley this summer, but the 22-year-old performed poorly when Guardiola’s men were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham on 23 August.
Meanwhile, Man City went on to lose 2-1 to Brighton on Sunday, 31 August, in a blow that could already damage their Premier League title credentials.

Man City set to finalise Gianluigi Donnarumma and Ederson deals
As they compete for both the Premier League and the Champions League, Man City have signed attacking talents like Rayan Cherki.
However, Guardiola’s decision could be defined by his decision to swap the long-serving goalkeeper Ederson for Donnarumma.
The Athletic revealed on 1 September that Man City are set to spend £30.3million to sign Donnarumma from PSG, while Ederson will join Fenerbahce for around £12.1m.
Crucially, the transfer window in Turkiye doesn’t close until 12 September, so Guardiola’s side have over a week to facilitate the Brazilian’s sale.

James Trafford set for blow as Gianluigi Donnarumma deal nears
Football Insider verdict
Since joining Man City from Burnley, Trafford has enjoyed three consecutive starts in the Premier League, maintaining a clean sheet in the 4-0 win over Wolves.
Gianluigi Donnarumma stats | Ligue 1 2024/25 |
Appearances | 24 |
Saves | 51 |
Clean sheets | 4 |
However, Donnarumma’s imminent arrival will be damaging for the 22-year-old’s chances of enjoying regular game time at the Etihad Stadium.
Trafford enjoyed an incredible season in the Championship with Burnley last term, helping the Clarets win promotion by keeping 29 clean sheets and conceding just 16 goals in 46 league appearances.
But Donnarumma has proven himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, playing a vital role as PSG claimed Champions League glory.
The Italy international won the 2020 European Championship with his nation, and has earned four Ligue 1 titles and two French cups with Luis Enrique’s side.
Such exploits are more notable than Trafford‘s career achievements, meaning that the former Burnley man could struggle for regular minutes this term and in the future.
