Football Insider predicts Aston Villa v Wigan

By Danny Wright

Aston Villa travel to the DW Stadium to face struggling Wigan on Saturday.

Steve Bruce’s side have been in impressive form of late and have won four of their last five games.

Villa currently sit 12th in the Championship standings and could leapfrog overachieving Barnsley into 11th if results go their way this weekend.

Wigan are currently without a manager after Warren Joyce left the club on Monday.

The Latics are five points away from survival and look set for an instant return to League One.

Here, Football Insider staff predict the outcome of Saturday’s showdown.

Dave Woods

Wigan 0-2 Aston Villa

Steve Bruce has got his side over the horrible patch of form at the turn of the year and his new signings are starting to bed in. The revival continues here against a wretched Wigan team that’s only scored two goals in their last six Championship games.

Harvey Byrne

Wigan 1-0 Aston Villa

Wigan have recently parted with manager Warren Joyce and Aston Villa could fall foul of a team looking to impress a potential new boss.

Matthew Farr

Wigan 0-2 Aston Villa

Wigan can’t seem to pick up a win from anywhere in recent weeks, and their clash with Aston Villa is sure to see them on the wrong end of another defeat. Villa have shown considerable improvements of late and are on the march back up the Championship table, and Wigan won’t prove much of an obstacle.

Will Butcher

Wigan 0-2 Aston Villa

The recent loss of Warren Joyce will affect the Lancashire outfit both on and off the pitch. Leaving them little time to prepare without a replacement yet installed as Latics boss, Steve Bruce will profit with the Midlands giants’ fifth win in six games. Kodjia will add to his tally of 15.

Danny Wright

Wigan 0-0 Aston Villa

Wigan are too poor to be able to pull off a win against an in-form Villa side, especially without a manager. However the Birmingham-based club are suffering with a lot of injuries recently and I think that the players will be too tired to be up for this game.

Dominic Toner

Wigan 1-1 Aston Villa

This is a huge game for Wigan and they need a run of victories if they are to get out of the relegation places. There have been just three goals in the last four games they have involved in, so expect another tight match. Villa have improved drastically recently, but their season is effectively over.

In other Aston Villa news, this attacker could return to the side in the expected 11 to take on Wigan.
