Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga has been named in the English Football League team of the week following his brilliant performance against Ipswich on the weekend.
It was set to be a very tricky afternoon for Forest as they needed a win to secure survival in the Championship on the final day of the season.
The 24-year-old forward delivered for his side as he scored from the penalty spot just before the break, and he also produced a fine solo effort in the second half to help his team to a 3-0 win at the City Ground.
The victory was enough to keep the two time European Cup winners in the league and it meant that Blackburn Rovers would be relegated to League One.
Assombalonga had the chance to walk away with the match ball but his second half penalty was brilliantly saved by Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.
Despite suffering an injury hit campaign, the Congolese striker still finished as Forest’s top goalscorer with 14 goals in just 20 starts in the Championship, a goal shy of his best tally with the club which came in the 2014/2015 season.
Nottingham Forest will be hoping that Assombalonga can stay injury free next season as they’ll be dreaming of a return to the Premier League for the first time since 1999.
