5. Francis Jeffers – £14million, From Everton 2001
The Fox in the Box was a rarity… An English striker who promised the world.
He signed for Arsenal after coming up through the youth ranks at Everton and even got a cap for his country.
It didn’t work out for him at Arsenal though.
Eight goals over 38 appearances was enough for him to sink almost without a trace, first back on loan to Everton before a long list of clubs saw him finish his career at Accrington Stanley.
