4. James Beattie
Beattie had broken through into the England team in 2003 when he was impressing for Southampton.
Two years later, at the age of 27, he joined Everton for £8million but started to sink without a trace almost immediately.
He never played for England again and although he made 82 appearances for Everton over his two-and-a-half years, a load of these were from the bench.
He was sold to Sheffield United in 2007 after failing to live up to expectations.
