One current Klopp player named in Sky poll of 20 greatest Liverpool and Man United players

By Emma Sanders

Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard top the votes in a poll of the greatest ever players to appear for Liverpool and Manchester United.

Former Reds’ captain Gerrard topped a poll created by Sky Sports, beating former team-mate Suarez to the accolade as well as Manchester United legends Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Ahead of the big clash on Monday evening at Anfield, the leading broadcasters asked their readers to vote for who they thought were the greatest ever players to represent both teams.

Gerrard won by more than 9000 votes, with his former teammate,Suarez coming in second with 40,000 votes but the duo were not supported by any other Liverpool players in the top five.

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo came third with 1000 less votes than Suarez, while Giggs and Scholes made up the final two spots with around 36,000 votes each.

Three more Liverpool stars made up the top ten list and all three players alongside Gerrard at some point in his career.

Strikers Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres were unsurprisingly two of the top Liverpool players to be voted for and 2005 Champions League winner, Xabi Alonso came in at number six, behind Giggs.

Philippe Coutinho was the only current player to make the 20-man shortlist but not a single player from Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United squad made the cut.

Daniel Sturridge, Lucas Leiva, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick made the top 50.
