Celtic manager Neil Lennon is ready to slam the door shut on his pursuit of Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster and a new stopper could be signed by the end of this week, according to reports.

Lennon hoped the 31-year-old was ready to commit his future to the Glasgow giants but that now seems unlikely.

Football Insider revealed earlier in July that Celtic were sounding out alternatives for the number one role next season.

Here are four potential goalkeepers they may target to replace Forster if he doesn’t return:

Joe Hart

Football Insider revealed last Tuesday that Celtic were closing in on the free agent after a breakthrough in talks.

The two-time Premier League winner has endured a frustrating spell at Burnley but would certainly come with the top pedigree Neil Lennon is after.

A manager like Lennon could be what he needs to help him discover his best form again.

David Marshall

At the start of July Football Insider revealed the door had opened for Celtic to resign the Wigan stopper after his club went into administration.

Lennon is believed to be seeking a ‘keeper with top-level pedigree and Marshall certainly fits the bill.

As well as Premier League experience, the Scotland number one has over 30 caps for his country and has kept an impressive 15 clean sheets this term.

Freddie Woodman

Earlier in July, the Chronicle reported that long-term target Woodman was on Lennon’s list of potential Forster replacements.

The 23-year-old doesn’t have the same level of experience of either Hart or Marshall but he has enjoyed an impressive season at Swansea City, with 41 games under his belt this season.

Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton believes the Newcastle stopper would be a gamble for the Scottish champions and is unlikely to be signed as a number one.

Angus Gunn

With it looking increasingly likely that Forster will fight for his place at St Mary’s next season, maybe Celtic could make a cheeky offer to bring Gunn to Glasgow on loan?

The 24-year-old hasn’t featured in the Premier League since Southampton’s crushing 9-0 defeat at Leicester and is set to fall further down the pecking order.

Having enjoyed an impressive spell with Norwich in 2017-18, could Lennon be the one to reignite his once promising career?
