Frank Lampard names really young Tottenham player in his team of the season

By Alex Stevens

Frank Lampard has hailed Dele Alli as a “really young player” who is destined for the top of the top of the world game.

Chelsea legend Lampard waxed lyrical about the Tottenham attacking midfielder as he named the 20-year-old in his Premier League team of the season.

Alli’s Spurs colleague Harry Kane was also slotted into Lampard’s XI, which included five years players from the club where he spent most of his career.

The man who many Chelsea fans regard as their club’s greatest ever player explained why the White Hart Lane playmaker had caught his eye as he dissected Alli’s goal in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Everton on Sunday.

“Technically he is ready for the world stage,” Lampard told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme.

“Physically he is also sharp and what I loved about his goal from the weekend. The finish was obviously class and that was top draw but the run was the special bit for me. He’s got that instinct to sniff out opportunities.

“We’re talking about a really young player who is already performing at the top level of the Premier League. If he keeps going like this he’s going to have a fantastic career and he really is going to rack up the goals.”

Alli has scored 15 goals and supplied seven assists in 37 Spurs matches in all competitions this season, with 13 goals coming from 26 league encounters.

He has built on his sensational debut campaign in which he adapted instantly after transferring from League One outfit MK Dons.

However, Alli’s hopes of being a Premier League champion this season were dealt a considerable blow on Monday night when Chelsea extended their lead to 10 points with a 2-1 win at West Ham.
