Alfredo Morelos will be sold by Rangers this summer if their £10million-plus valuation is met, according to Jackie McNamara.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Scotland, Celtic and Wolves full-back is convinced the Glasgow giants will cash in on their prize asset and use the proceeds to try and narrow the gap on Celtic.
McNamara does not expect Rangers to get close to the £19million Moussa Dembele-type fee the club have suggested is their asking price for the leading SPL 2018-19 scorer.
Nevertheless, the pundit believes Steven Gerrard’s side will secure a massive profit on the player they signed for £1million in the summer of 2017 from HJK Helsinki.
“From what I hear and read, he’s off. Morelos has made it clear with what he’s said publicly that’s what he wants,” McNamara told Football Insider. “I think Rangers will have a valuation and if that’s met he will go, maybe £10million, a bit more perhaps.”
Gerrard appeared to have lost patience with Morelos at the end of the season, particularly his fifth red card in the Old Firm defeat at Parkhead in April that ended their title hopes.
“Don’t think he’s lost patience, I think he’ll look at it about reliability in certain games,” McNamara added to Football Insider. “He’s not scored in any Old Firm games, where he’s judged, he’s been sent off a number of times.
“If they get the right money for him, you imagine they take that money and try to invest it in other positions they’ll need to try and get closer to Celtic, which they think they are because they’ve beaten Celtic over a number of games. But I still think Celtic are way ahead.”
Morelos signed the latest in a series of improved Gers contracts in March and the deal runs until the summer of 2023.
