'From what I've seen...' - Exclusive: Whelan raves over Leeds player with one senior appearance
Noel Whelan believes it is a great sign that Leeds United have beaten a host of European clubs to the signature of Manchester City’s Ian Poveda this month.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the ex-Coventry forward claimed the English winger would be well suited to Leeds given his development at the Etihad.
The signing was confirmed on Friday as the 19-year-old put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal with The Whites.
The England under-20 international reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Torino, Palma, and Celtic before agreeing on a switch to Elland Road.
When asked to give his thoughts on the signing, Whelan told Football Insider: “Anytime you can get a player on a free from a club like Manchester City. You know they have had good coaching, good technical skill and idea of the game.
“He was looked at by a lot of European clubs as well so it is good that Leeds United have won the race for this player.

“Hopefully, he will be part of the plans until the end of the season. Bielsa wanted another winger in, he now has this winger and from what I’ve seen, he looks, technically, very good.”
Poveda made only one senior appearance for the Premier League champions but had been a regular fixture for City’s under-23 side.
The teenager will be joined at Elland Road by striker Jean-Kevin Augustin, 22, who arrives on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season.
