Celtic’s on-loan goalkeeper Scott Bain was the unlikely hero of the Hoops’ 3-2 win over Rangers on Sunday with two excellent saves from Alfredo Morelos.
But his future at the club isn’t clear, with the Scottish Sun reporting that the Bhoys and Edinburgh duo Hearts and Hibernian are all interested in signing the player from Dundee on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Hoops on-loan from Dundee in January as cover for Dorus de Vries, could be pushed down to third choice goalkeeper at Celtic Park when both Craig Gordon and de Vries return from injury.
He will have to weigh up his options carefully as to which team offers him the most opportunities at first-team football, and at the moment that doesn’t look like the Hoops can, even though he is set to remain in goal for the game against Motherwell on Sunday as de Vries recovers from an ankle injury.
Bain really should be challenging Gordon for the Hoops number one slot when all three goalkeepers are eventually fit, bur as Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of de Vries this might not happen.
For now, the player will enjoy his brief spell in the Hoops as the Bhoys aim to complete a second consecutive domestic treble, and the future will bring what it brings.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops are considering making Odsonne Edouard’s loan deal a permanent one
