Rangers are set to miss out on the signature of Swansea striker Oli McBurnie as he prepares to join Sunderland on loan, according to a reliable journalist.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Championship outfit Sunderland have “pipped” the Gers to the 21-year-old’s signature.
Sunderland have pipped Rangers to the signing of Swansea striker @oli_mcburnie. Sunderland with a youthful strike force for the remainder of the season.

Daily Record journalist Scott McDermott had previously reported that Graeme Murty’s side had “been in touch” with Premier League side Swansea over a potential loan swoop.
However, he is poised to join Sunderland in their fight against relegation in England’s second-tier.
McBurnie is recognised as a big Rangers fan, but it seems like a temporary switch to Ibrox is off the cards.
The Scotland Under-21 international is sent to be sent out on loan by Swansea in search of regular first-team experience.
He has made 11 senior appearances this campaign for the Swans, but is yet to open his goalscoring account.
Football Insider verdict
Rangers appear to have lost the race to sign McBurnie, but did enter in the eleventh hour to try swoop his signature. Missing out on him should not be a colossal blow provided they keep hold of Alfredo Morelos and they still have enough firepower in their attack. McBurnie would have been an interesting option due to his physical power and height that makes him a serious aerial threat. However, he is yet to prove himself at senior level despite impressing for the Under-23s and may not have forced his way into the starting XI at Ibrox on a regular basis.
