‘Garnacho transfer message sent live at Old Trafford as Man United beat Rangers’

Man United letting Alejandro Garnacho leave the club in the January transfer window will leave the fans let down, according to Rio Ferdinand.

Ruben Amorim’s side left it late to snatch a late winner against Rangers on Thursday (23 January) to put them within touching distance of automatically qualifying for the last 16 of the competition.

After Cyriel Dessers had equalised for the visitors at Old Trafford to make it 1-1 with just two minutes of normal time remaining, Bruno Fernandes struck in stoppage time to secure the win for the Red Devils.

Another talking point from the game was the inclusion of Garnacho in the Man United starting XI, amid a raft of speculation around his future.

The likes of Chelsea have been linked the Argentine in the January transfer window, although it appears both Ferdinand and the Old Trafford fanbase want the winger to stay where he is.

After being asked by commentator Darren Fletcher what he thinks the chances are of Garnacho leaving the club in January while commentating on TNT Sports, former Red Devils defender Ferdinand said (9:48pm): “Him alongside Amad today have been the biggest threat…

“He gives us that threat in behind as well, he wants to run in behind he’s direct. I think there would be a lot of people disappointed if he was to be allowed to get out of this place.”

Fletcher then noted the backing the winger was given by the crowd during the game, as he added: “I think the crowd have been singing his name a lot in the second half which is potentially a message from them.”

Alejandro Garnacho leaving could be a risk for Man United

Football Insider Verdict

There have been some difficult periods for Garnacho this season, not least when he found himself excluded from the squad early on in Amorim’s reign.

Even so the fact he has worked his way back into the picture shows his commitment to Man United, and suggests Amorim still feels he can make an impact for the club.

He did show that against Rangers, where he was among those who looked the most likely to make things happen in attack for the hosts.

It would therefore be a gamble for the club to let him go, especially if it is in a deal that may help add to the options available to a direct rival in Chelsea.

In showing their support by chanting his name in that match it also appears as though the majority of Man United fans are keen to see him remain at the club.

With that in mind there is going to be a lot to consider for the decision makers at Old Trafford as they consider the winger’s future in the coming days.
