Garry Monk seen on Tuesday Leeds scouting mission - reliable journalist

By Matt Farr

Leeds manager Garry Monk is present at Oakwell as Barnsley prepare to take on Blackpool in their FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday evening, according to a reliable journalist.

Jonathan Veal, who works for the Press Association, claimed on his Twitter account that Monk was at Oakwell on a scouting mission, although the exact nature of the trip is unclear.

The former Swansea boss is most likely present at the game to assess Barnsley ahead of their meeting with Leeds in the Championship on Saturday, but Monk may also have a transfer-related agenda.

Monk could be considering a move for much-coveted midfielder Conor Hourihane, who has emerged as a top transfer target for several of Leeds’ league rivals.

The 25-year-old has been Barnsley’s star performer this season, contributing five goals and 12 assists from 26 appearances in all competitions.

He was named in the starting XI for Barnsley’s clash with Blackpool.

The Daily Mail claimed on Friday that Aston Villa had submitted a £1million bid for the Republic of Ireland international’s services, while Sheffield Wednesday remain interested.

Monk’s Leeds are currently third in the Championship, chasing a place in the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

Veal confirmed that Rotherham boss Paul Warne was also in attendance at Oakwell on Tuesday night.
