Gary Lineker delivers instant Twitter verdict as Wenger quits Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has released a statement saying that he will quit Arsenal at the end of the season.

The news was released on the official Arsenal site on Friday morning and came completely out of the blue.

Despite heavy speculation about his job, the consensus seemed to be that he would stay on for another year, but that will not be the case.

It brings to a close over 20 years at the club, with huge success at the start, but not so much in the latter years.

Gary Lineker took to Twitter to pay tribute to Wenger, saying that he has “given so much of his life to Arsenal”.

He ended the tweet by wishing him good luck in French.

Football Insider verdict:

There has been lots of criticism from Arsenal fans and pundits like Lineker over the past couple of years, but this is heartfelt and sums up how the football world thinks about Wenger. We can only hope that all the fans come together to give him an amazing send off from now until the end of the season – even those campaigning for him to leave. If he could win the Europa League it would be the absolute greatest end to his career and all neutrals, except maybe Tottenham fans, will be willing it to happen.
