Gary Lineker delivers verdict on Tottenham title hopes after Chelsea lose to Man United

By Danny Wright

Gary Lineker believes that the title race between Tottenham and Chelsea is well and truly on.

After Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday, he thinks that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are more than capable of lifting their maiden Premier League trophy.

Tottenham are now just four points behind Antonio Conte’s side after the weekend’s action.

Speaking on his personal Twitter account, the 56-year-old said: “We might just have a title race on our hands.”

Marcus Rashford gave Man United the lead after just seven minutes in their game with Chelsea, before Ander Herrera rounded off the victory in the second-half.

It was never going to be an easy game for Chelsea as Jose Mourinho’s side have not lost a league game since October.

Spurs thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday to close down the gap at the top of the table.

Pochettino’s side have now won seven back-to-back games in the top-flight to keep up the pressure on Chelsea who have lost two of their last four games.

Tottenham were also involved in a two-horse race for the title last season with surprise winners Leicester before they suffered a huge downturn of results at a critical stage.

The two London rivals meet next weekend at Wembley in an FA Cup semi-final that will provide one of the two teams with a huge mental boost.

Lineker was part of the squad when Spurs won their last FA Cup in 1991.

In other Tottenham news, the club are planning a £40million deal with this midfield wizard.
