Break the bank: Tottenham offer stunning £40m to seal midfielder deal - report

By Danny Wright

Tottenham are planning to offer a new contract to Dele Alli worth a stunning £40million over six years, according to a report.

The Daily Mirror reports that Spurs want to offer the mega-money deal to the midfield wizard in order to stave off interest from European giants Real Madrid.

Interest from the Spanish giants has been high after the 21-year-old has hit 19 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions this season.

If Alli signs the new deal, it would be the third time in 16 months he’s put pen to paper to secure his future in North London.

His current contract reportedly sees him pick up £55,000-a-week for the next five years.

However Spurs are desperate to see him stay at the club and have offered him a fresh deal which lasts until 2023 and will see his wages double.

It is reported that he would pick up a minimum of £40million in that time.

The 17-time England international will be put in a similar pay bracket as Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane if he agrees to the deal.

Alli only cost Tottenham £5million when they bought him from MK Dons in 2015.

Madrid are prepared to splash more cash on signing the midfielder than they did on Gareth Bale.

The Welshman is the Galacitco’s most expensive signing in their history when he cost them £85.5million in 2013.

Football Insider Verdict

Alli has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in world football. He’s already proved this season he is perhaps the best in his role in the Premier League and Spurs simply cannot afford to let him go. They could not do anything about Bale leaving for Madrid four years ago because they could not promise him silverware. However the tide has turned in North London and Tottenham are mounting a serious challenge for the league title – and next year’s Champions League. Money, longevity and silverware are the trio of elements that Alli requires to justify staying at Spurs – this deal will do that.
