Gary Lineker delivers Twitter verdict on Arsenal after defeat to Liverpool
By Amir Mir
Gary Lineker has joked on Twitter that Arsenal were “clearly saving themselves for Bayern Munich” as they were beaten 3-1 at Liverpool on Saturday evening.
Arsene Wenger’s side contest the second leg of their Champions League tie against the German club on Tuesday night at the Emirates, having been beaten 5-1 in the previous leg.
Prior to that game, they suffered a costly defeat at the hands of their Champions League rivals in the Premier League.
Wenger opted to leave star man Alexis Sanchez on the bench for this match, a decision which quickly backfired and Lineker couldn’t help but have a pop at the north London club.
“Arsenal are clearly saving themselves for Bayern Munich,” Lineker wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took the lead after nine minutes through Roberto Firmino before Sadio Mane doubled their lead just before the break with a brilliant low drilled finish.
Sanchez was then brought on in the second half and made an instant impact with his through ball finding Danny Welbeck who pulled a goal back for the visitors.
The home team continued to pile on the pressure and after a swift counter attack, they punished their opponents late on with Georginio Wijnaldum making sure of all three points deep into injury-time.
The result means that the Gunners drop out of the top four, two points behind fourth-placed Manchester City who have a game in hand on their rivals and three points behind second-placed Tottenham who play Everton on Sunday.
In other Arsenal news, supporters had gone into meltdown when they heard Alexis Sanchez was on the bench.
