Gary Mabbutt: Tottenham FA Cup fear factor, this is who we want in final

By Matt Farr

Tottenham hero Gary Mabbutt believes his former club should fear no-one in their pursuit of FA Cup glory this season.

Spurs cemented their place in the semi-finals with a 6-0 victory over Millwall on Sunday, and Mabbutt believes they have what it takes to go on and win the competition.

Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City have already qualified for the final four, while Chelsea and Manchester United do battle on Monday to decide the remaining participant at Wembley.

But former Tottenham captain Mabbutt, who led them to a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup final 26 years ago, insists that Mauricio Pochettino’s side should not fear any of their potential opponents.

He told TalkSport: “To be honest, I don’t think we fear anyone at the moment.

“Man City came to White Hart Lane after a fantastic start to the season with six straight victories and we completely outplayed them. We made them look very ordinary.

“Chelsea came to White Hart Lane after 13 straight victories and again it was the same thing. We overran them. Whoever we get, we will look forward to.”

He also admitted that he would love to see a north London derby against Arsenal in the Final, meaning they would have to face one of City, United or Chelsea in the semi finals.

Tottenham have not won a major trophy since the 2007-08 League Cup, but Pochettino’s side have shown great improvements in recent years and certainly look the part in the bid for silverware.

They went toe-to-toe with Leicester in the Premier League title race last season, while they are currently second in the league this term, ten points behind Chelsea.

Meanwhile, they are one of only three sides to have beaten the league leaders this season, winning 2-0 in January to end their winning run.
