Guillem Balague has revealed that Real Madrid star Isco is delaying a contract offer at Real Madrid because of his limited game-time at the Bernabeu.
The news will put a number of Premier League teams – including Tottenham – on high alert ahead of a possible summer move.
The Daily Mail claimed Spurs were interesting in signing the playmaker in the summer, while multiple English clubs considered moves in January without tabling anything concrete.
Spurs could now reignite their interest in Isco, after Balague told Sky Sports 1’s coverage of Real Madrid’s clash against Real Betis on Sunday that Isco was stalling on a new deal.
Spanish football expert Balague claimed that the Spaniard wants assurances that his game-time will increase if he is to sign a new deal.
“Firstly, Real want to renew Isco’s contract and have tabled an offer for him,” Balague revealed. “Secondly, Isco is delaying on signing that contract because he is unhappy with his game time.
“He wants promises that his game time will increase, but is keeping his options open with the knowledge that there is interest from both England and Italy.”
The Daily Mirror claim that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of the 24-year-old, whose current contract expires in less than 18 months.
Isco started just his first game of the month against Betis, as Real narrowly won 2-1 after going behind to Antonio Sanabria’s opener before Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos struck.
This season, Isco has started just 12 La Liga games for Real and made just two Champions League appearances, scoring six goals in the process.
Football Insider verdict:
Isco would be a fantastic signing at White Hart Lane, and Pochettino should do all he can to bring the 15-time international to north London. Real’s number 22 could hold the key that would see Spurs finally become the team to beat in the Premier League, with his dribbling ability and vision in the final third proving to be one of Europe’s best. His quality is good enough to become an integral member of any European side, but Isco has found himself unlucky to be challenging the likes of Ronaldo, Bale and Morata. Now, with his future in doubt, Pochettino must move to sign Isco in order to boost his Premier League title hopes ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
