Gerrard 1-0 Rodgers: Rangers would leave Celtic seething if they snap up PL centre-forward

COMMENT

Steven Gerrard has already caused quite the stir in not only Scottish football, but British football as a whole after he agreed a four-year deal to become the next Rangers manager last week.

Celtic may be about to feel the full force of the Liverpool legend’s arrival in Glasgow as he reportedly plots move for Anfield forward Dominic Solanke, who was reportedly wanted by Brendan Rodgers last year.

The Scottish Sun has recently reported that Gerrard has made Solanke, 20, his number one transfer target for the summer window as he eyes up a loan deal with Liverpool.

The Daily Record claimed last year that Celtic were closing in on signing the one-time England international while he was at Chelsea, only for Liverpool to wrap up a deal before Rodgers could.

Judging by reports, Solanke is clearly someone who the Hoops rated highly and wanted to snap up last year.

But now it seems that Rodgers will have to cope with seeing the Premier League centre-forward turn out for bitter rivals Rangers next season if Gerrard can pull some strings with his former club and get a loan deal sorted for the summer.

Solanke would make an excellent addition at Ibrox and while he has not scored a first team goal at Liverpool yet, he would surely flourish in Scotland if he is given the chance to start every week.

Celtic will be left seething if Gerrard pulls off this masterstroke and it could go a long way in helping the Light Blues close down the gap between themselves and their Old Firm rivals.

In other Rangers news, this 6ft 4in giant heading to Ibrox instead of Celtic is the first example of the Gerrard effect.
