Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to sell Mesut Ozil in January amid reported interest from Turkish side Fenerbahce.
The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is adamant that the 32-year-old’s departure in January would have a “positive impact” on the club.
As quoted by the Daily Mail, one of Fenerbahce’s club congress members, Murat Zorlu, is “90 per cent” sure the midfielder will move to the Turkish giants in the new year.
Ozil has been frozen out at the Emirates this season and has not featured for Mikel Arteta’s side since the 1-0 win over West Ham on 7 March.
Arsenal have endured a torrid start to the season in front of goal, scoring just 10 goals in 11 Premier League games to leave them 15th in the table.
When asked by Football Insider if Ozil’s departure in January would be beneficial for the London club, Campbell said:
“I think his departure would have a positive impact on the club.
“It would stop the fan base calling for Mesut Ozil as if he is going to change the fortunes of the football club.
“We know Ozil is an extremely talented player but that ship has sailed now. Those days are over. He is not the future of Arsenal.
“The quicker Arsenal get him out of the football club the better. That spectre is constantly looking over the team and Mikel Arteta.”
