'Good news, get rid' - Newcastle fans buoyant at report star wants to leave club
By Laura O’Leary
Newcastle United midfielder Mohammed Diame is reportedly keen on a move to Aston Villa according to a report, and Magpies fans hope it’s true.
The Mirror claims that the 30-year-old is keen to be reunited with former boss Steve Bruce and a move could happen as soon as January.
The former Senegal international has been with Newcastle United since August 2016, having left Bruce’s Hull City.
During his time with Newcastle United the central midfielder has made a total of 49 appearances, scoring six goals and grabbing three assists.
The midfielder was a key member of the Magpies’ Championship winning team last season, with 37 of his total 49 outings for the club being in the Championship.

This season, Diame has featured eight times for the Magpies across all competitions, not scoring a goal or registering an assist.
Only one of those eight appearance was a Premier League start, with Rafa Benitez clearly not seeing the star as vital to his team.
The midfielder’s performances clearly haven’t impressed the Geordie faithful either because news of the reported exit had some fans offering to transport him to Birmingham themselves.
Here are some of the best tweets from Newcastle United fans regarding Diame’s potential move:
Hope there's some truth to the Diame to Villa rumours. We desperately need a number 10 and he's nowhere near good enough for the Premier League. #NUFC
