‘Get someone else in’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts after Celtic offer submitted
Alan Hutton has warned Celtic they need to act quickly if they are to keep either Fraser Forster or Craig Gordon at the club next season.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Bhoys could lose Gordon to another club if they do not move swiftly in contract negotiations.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the veteran keeper, who is currently a free agent, revealed that he had turned down Celtic’s initial offer and told the Bhoys they needed to up their offer if he is to re-sign for them.
With Chelsea joining the Hoops in the hunt to sign Forster from Southampton, Hutton claims Neil Lennon can waste no time in getting either goalkeeper signed up.
Asked if Celtic’s decision on Gordon was hanging on Forster’s future, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, very much so. They’ve obviously offered him something that he’s not happy with, he thinks he should be getting better so he’s willing to hold out.
“A lot’s going to hang on whether Forster can be done because if they can’t they’re going to need to act quickly and get someone else in, especially with the Craig Gordon situation.
“The goalkeeping situation has been a difficult one for them towards the end of this season, so one way or another they’re going to have to sort it out quickly and get it done. The new season will be here before you know it.”
Gordon told the Scottish Sun: “With Celtic, the ball is in their court. They’ve made an offer but they know they’ll need to come back with something better.
“Other clubs have been in touch too and I’m expecting to have some more talks with Celtic. But I’ll take my time to consider what to do.”
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that Hoops coaches are expecting a rarely-seen player to burst into life.
