Gibbs-White sends bizarre message to Anthony Gordon amid Newcastle celebrations
Anthony Gordon received a one-word message from England team-mate Morgan Gibbs-White after Newcastle United’s EFL Cup parade.
Newcastle players, coaches, and tens of thousands of fans took to the streets on Tyneside as Eddie Howe’s side celebrated a first cup final win in generations, after they beat Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley.
The Magpies’ first major trophy lift in 70 years saw Howe’s side overcome the odds to upset a much-fancied Liverpool side who are firmly on course to win the Premier League title at a canter.
It also came without Gordon playing off the left flank; the England winger having been suspended for the Wembley final after his red card against Brighton in Newcastle’s FA Cup loss to Brighton two weeks prior.
Harvey Barnes deputised on Newcastle’s left and played a role in Alexander Isak’s goal to put them 2-0 up early in the second half, but Gordon was still front and centre of the celebrations throughout the city.

Gordon and his Newcastle team-mates were the toast of an entire city as their open-top bus paraded through the streets before stopping at St. James’ Park, with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes at the forefront.
Injured and suspended Magpies players, such as Gordon and Sven Botman, were also heavily involved as Newcastle’s fans brought North East England to a standstill, and the former took to Instagram thereafter.
Posting on his personal account, Gordon said: “Very special day.”
Among the replies, which included Guimaraes, Nottingham Forest star Gibbs-White left a left-field one-word response, saying: “Denim.”
Anthony Gordon marks start of new era at Newcastle
Gordon may not have featured on the pitch in Newcastle’s historic triumph at Wembley, but his nine goals and seven assists this season have helped propel Howe’s side back towards the top of the table.
The 24-year-old’s two goals and one assist, including a strike in each of Newcastle’s semi-final second leg victories over Arsenal, were pivotal in propelling Newcastle towards Wembley on 16 March.
Player | Appearances | Starts | Goals | Assists | Yellow/Red Cards |

A first major trophy in seven decades and a potential return to the Champions League will enable the Magpies to strengthen significantly, which will be needed with the likes of Forest also in the reckoning.
Gibbs-White could be a player Newcastle target if they’re finally allowed to flex their financial muscles this summer, and given he’s been heavily linked to Manchester United, the Forest number 10 may well prefer a move further north.
