Glasgow pundit insists Rangers are lining up multiple January deals as Van Bronckhorst told who to sign
Frank McAvennie insists new Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will look to sign new defenders in January.
The former Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Gers’ backline needs an overhaul.
Van Bronckhorst, 46, was in attendance as Rangers conceded three first-half goals in last weekend’s League Cup semi-final loss to Hibernian.
The Light Blues haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league since September 25 and have made a habit of conceding the first goal in recent games.
As a result, McAvennie admits he wouldn’t be surprised if Rangers sign some new defenders in the upcoming window to rectify the side’s “shocking” drop in form.
“I should think there will be deals,” Glasgow-based McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Martin Boyle is a very good player but if one player is running rings around your entire defence, you have a problem.
“The same quality hasn’t been there this season and sometimes the best way to amend that is with fresh blood.
“Maybe things have gone stale but look at the number of times they have conceded first this season.
“It’s a shocking drop off from last season. I don’t know if Van Bronckhorst will have taken the job if he wasn’t going to be backed.
“Let’s see what happens in January but I would certainly expect some movement to fix that defence out.”
Rangers remain top of the Scottish Premiership.
They travel to Livingston on Sunday.
