The price of one reported Rangers target could have increased after the latest comments from Dundee manager Neil McCann.
The Sun reported in April that Rangers, Celtic and Swansea were all interested in Glen Kamara, who has made a big impact at Dundee since moving from Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer.
That report said he could move for as little as £1million but McCann has stressed that he doesn’t want to lose the 22-year-old and would only let him leave for a substantial fee.
“We’re not ignorant of the fact he’ll get attention, McCann said in the Dundee Evening Telegraph.
“I don’t want Glen Kamara to go anywhere.
“He will be going nowhere unless it is right for this club and I mean it will need to be serious cash so I can take away all your fears that Glen Kamara will not be walking out Dens Park unless this club get a very big deal.
“We are currently speaking to Glen and have been for a wee bit now.”
Football Insider verdict:
Kamara has seriously impressed with Dundee last season and it’s not surprising that clubs have come calling. Swansea’s interested was reported before their relegation from the Premier League and that could have an impact. That would mean a straight battle between Celtic and Rangers for the midfield star and it would be interesting to see who comes out on top if that’s the case. Celtic are the dominant team in Scotland but Rangers have Steven Gerrard and that could play a part in Kamara’s thinking. Without knowing the player directly, we’d say he’d find it hard to turn down a move from either of the Scottish giants after the disappointment of getting released from Arsenal. McCann might want to keep him but the player is only contracted at Dundee until 2019 and that could mean the club cashing in on a player they picked up for free. Or risk losing him for free in a year’s time, which they won’t want to do.
