Glenn Hoddle has questioned Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and stated that he doesn’t perform against the top sides.
Playmaker Eriksen has been a key player for Spurs during this campaign as they aim to secure an unlikely Premier League title.
The Denmark international has featured on a regular basis for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who are on course to secure Champions League football for the second season running.
However, Spurs legend, Hoddle questioned the player’s abilities and the manner in which he performs in the bigger matches.
“I’m not sure people like Eriksen do it against the top teams,” Hoddle told BT Sport on Premier League tonight.
“They need somebody who can really create and really do it like he does against Hull City or Stoke, I have seen him play fantastic in those games.
“Come to the top six or seven [teams], I don’t think he is the type of player that Tottenham can have.”
Eriksen has played 41 matches in all competitions for his side this season, scoring 11 goals and supplying 17 assists.
During the north London club’s Champion League campaign, he managed only one assist as Spurs were knocked out of the group stages.
In the Premier League, he has played a part in 11 goals and found the back of the net on seven occasions himself.
Out of the top six sides in the league, he has only scored or assisted against current leaders Chelsea, both home and away.
From Eriksen’s last six matches, he has supplied three assists and scored two goals, all against the likes of Stoke, Southampton, Swansea and most recently Watford.
However, the Dane may point towards his ability to control games, dictate possession, especially on home soil, which gives the likes of Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane the freedom to score goals.
In other Tottenham news, Steve Nicol has provided a brutal verdict on the club’s future and urged this player to leave.
