Exclusive: Celtic set to lose 'Outstanding' player amid team news reveal for tonight - pundit

Alan Hutton admits losing Kristoffer Ajer to injury will be a bitter pill for Celtic manager Neil Lennon to swallow.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 21-year-old has been an “outstanding” talent for the Bhoys at the heart of the defence.

As revealed by Lennon in the build-up to Wednesday’s clash away at Livingston, the 21-year-old has picked up a thigh injury which leaves him a doubt for the club’s upcoming fixtures.

Having seen the Norwegian international play a regular role in the Hoops’ side this season, Hutton says an injury will be a big blow to Lennon’s plans.

“He’s been a rock for them, to be honest,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“Throughout the season he’s been great, especially in the games against Rangers and stuff, I thought he was outstanding.

“He gets the odd goal here and there so it’s going to be a blow. Celtic seem to have that strength in depth, that character, no matter what happens, they’ve got that next player to just come in.”

Ajer has been a mainstay for Lennon at the back this season, with 47 appearances and four goals under his belt across all competitions so far.

The Hoops have used a number of players at the heart of the defence, with the likes of Christopher Jullien, Jozo Simunovic, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton all playing a role.

In other Celtic news, Alex Bruce has been left raving over one Bhoy who is “everything you want” in a player.
