Darren Bent has heralded Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as a game-changing talent after his early performances for the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa and England striker says that the 21-year-old brings some much-needed energy and combative nature to the middle of the pitch, having started the last two Premier League matches under Dean Smith.
The Brazilian was a summer signing from Manchester City and after featuring for eight minutes on the opening day of the season, started and scored against Bournemouth in a 2-1 defeat.
Having watched the former City man played an important role in securing a 2-0 victory over Everton on Friday, Bent insists that the midfield enforcer is going to play a significant role for the Villans this season.
Bent told Football Insider: “I thought Luiz gives them a real thorn and a real spine in the side, he’s making a big, big difference for them this season.
“He’s that energy and powerhouse in the midfield. Even when he came in against Bournemouth and scored that goal, you could see he was going to be a key ingredient to the way they play.
“He’s going to be massive for them this season.”
Douglas never played for Manchester City’s first-team during his time at the Etihad due to work permit issues, instead finding himself shipped out on loan to Spanish side Girona last season.
He is a Brazilian under-23 international, captaining the side during his country’s friendly matches back in June.
