Goldson tipped follow Gerrard out of Rangers after ‘strange’ development – Kenny

Paddy Kenny insists Connor Goldson could follow Steven Gerrard out of Rangers in January.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Gers may be prepared to let their star defender leave.

Goldson, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season and revealed last month he had not spoken to his agent recently about a new deal.

Rangers

The centre-back remains a vital cog in the Rangers machine having only missed two games in all competitions since the start of last season.

However, Kenny claims a lack of updates on Goldson’s contract situation could hint that the Ibrox club are happy to let him leave.

“I find it strange that Rangers haven’t sorted this,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The fact that they have let it run down this far is a concern. They must know he can agree a pre-contract in January.

“Maybe Rangers are happy for him to move on, otherwise it makes no sense why they haven’t offered him a deal.

“As a player, if he has the option to follow Gerrard that might be something he considers.

“There is still time for them to sort a new deal out but it worries me that they haven’t got anything signed considering how big of a player he is for them.”

Rangers

Gerrard left Rangers to take the Aston Villa job on 11 November following Dean Smith’s dismissal.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was named as his replacement on Thursday.

In other news, Rangers are set to fight Nottingham Forest to sign Scotland-based star.
