Souness: This Tottenham player is miles away from being as good as Bale

Graeme Souness is convinced that Tottenham’s Dele Alli has all the makings to be one of the finest Premier League players, but he is miles away from being as consistently good as Gareth Bale.
The former Liverpool defender has said in the Sunday Times that the Tottenham star has to be comparable to the likes of Bale and Luis Suarez during their Premier League days in order to be dubbed as one of the best.
All-time great Souness gave his verdict on Alli after he got himself sent off for a shocking tackle on Thursday as Spurs were eliminated from the Europa League.
The former Liverpool midfielder, 63, added that he likes the intensity of the former MK Dons man but he is a long way from fufiling his potential.
“He’s still only 20 and we hand out greatness too readily today,” Souness said. “He has the potential, but it’s too early to say he will be that good.

“Greatness comes only when you have played 10 years at the highest level and performed in every single one of those seasons.
“Or, in the short-term, if you’re doing the things Bale did when he was at Tottenham or Suarez did at Liverpool, winning games most weeks for them. Alli’s miles away from that standard just now.”
Souness came through the youth ranks at Tottenham but went on to become a household name with Liverpool.
The former Scotland international suggested that Alli may have to follow the same path as Suarez and Bale at some stage in his career.
Alli is hot property at White Hart Lane and he has been in scintillating form for Mauricio Pochettino over the past couple of seasons.
The 20-year-old has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season and has scored 13 goals, setting up a further six.
He hit his peak form between December and January when he struck three braces in a row which was topped by scoring both goals in his side’s 2-0 win over league leaders Chelsea.
In other Tottenham news, fans have urged Pochettino to start this 24-year-old against Stoke.
