Former Rangers star Graham Roberts has congratulated Steven Gerrard on his imminent appointment as manager at Ibrox – and challenged the 114-times capped England midfielder to get the Gers “back to the top.”
Gerrard is expected to be confirmed as manager at a 3pm press conference on Friday afternoon with reports claiming Gary McAllister will be named as his number two.
According to the Daily Mirror, Gerrard will be joined by McAllister with Martin Skrtel possibly coming in as a player/coach.
Roberts thinks the new Gers management team will love the atmosphere at Ibrox and called the Gers fans “great supporters” before wishing them luck in their new roles.
“Well done to Steven Gerrard on you appointment at Rangers FC. You will enjoy the atmosphere from great supporters, bring the club back to the top. Good luck Steven & Gary Mac,” Roberts said on his personal Twitter account.

Football Insider verdict
Coming to Ibrox will be the first time Gerrard will be properly aware of just how demanding life at the Old Firm can be. Although some pundits think the idea that Gerrard will be expected to win the title is ridiculous, the reality is that the title is expected at Ibrox every single season. Gerrard will get the full backing of the support but needs to make sure he hits the ground running if he is to close the gap to Celtic and stop Brendan Rodgers’ side from lifting an eighth successive Scottish Premiership title. Roberts knows first-hand just how passionate Old Firm games can get after being taken to court for ‘conducting’ the Rangers fans as they sang. Gerrard got his first taste of the atmosphere when he attended March’s Ibrox meeting between the two sides but will find it very different when he is in the middle of the chaos.
