Hutton blown away after Rangers agree left footer signing

Alan Hutton has hailed the Rangers signing of Jack Simpson “great business” and insisted it gives the club greater room to manoeuvre in terms of future deals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Light Blues defender and lifelong fan delivered his verdict after his old club fast-forwarded the signing of the left-footed defender.

Rangers confirmed last week Simpson had been tied to a pre-contract and then brought forward his arrival on deadline day to join on an immediate deal.

They did the same with Scott Wright. It was initially announced he would join at the end of the season on a pre-contract before Monday night’s deadline day deal was confirmed.

In a third deal, confirmed after the window had shut, Rangers revealed they had agreed to sign Bounremouth midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh on a pre-contract.

Hutton has been blown away by the captures and insisted it was testament to Rangers’ growing standing in the British and European game.

Hutton told Football Insider: “Great business, that’s exactly what it is.

“These players, they understand that Rangers is such a big club. Some people might look at Scottish Football and think it’s a step back but is it really? If you’re going to a winning team, you want to win things, you want to play in Europe and this is a good opportunity for these players.

“They are young themselves, there’s plenty of time to move on, and getting these boys cheap frees up money for maybe the striker that you need or that certain player that can make the difference.

“Simpson’s another good player, centre-back, left-footed and that’s something that I’ll always love a balance in the back four so it’s something good in the making there.”

A former England Under-21 international, Simpson featured 12 times for Bournemouth in all competitions this season and had been a regular starter recently.
