Confirmed: Celtic on verge of attacker signing after jetting in for medical
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed 24 clubs were trying to sign Chelsea midfielder Charly Musonda as he confirms that the attacking midfielder is putting the finishing touches on a”great coup” to bring the Belgian to Celtic Park.
Musonda jetted into Glasgow earlier on Monday and is undergoing a medical with the Hoops to become their third signing of the January transfer window.
“Really exciting prospect. 24 clubs were in for Charly, great coup for us,” Rodgers said, as quoted by Press Association’s Ronnie Esplin on Twitter.

Musonda joined Chelsea in 2012 from Anderlecht and signed a contract extension in March 2015.
After a previous loan spell with Real Betis in Spain’s La Liga, he broke into the Chelsea first team this season, scoring once in seven appearances for the Blues.
Football Insider verdict
Musonda could be a really good signing for Celtic over the next 18 months and Rodgers will be hoping the Belgium Under-21 international has a similar impact to another loanee – Patrick Roberts. With Rodgers looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the Europa League clash with Zenit St. Petersburg, Musonda will give him something a little bit different to what he currently has at his disposal. Musonda could even come in and make his debut against Hearts on Tuesday night if the Hoops can get the deal across the line in time. The signing of Musonda could also provide a bit of motivation for some of Rodgers’ stars after performances began to drop off a little in recent weeks.
