Darren Bent has suggested that Aston Villa will launch a move for Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama before the end of the transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Villa forward says that the central enforcer would bring some much-needed experience and guile to Dean Smith’s squad ahead of their return to the top flight, with the player likely to get the game time he is seeking.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the Kenyan star has told Tottenham that he wants to leave before the window slams shut next week as he seeks a move to Bournemouth.
However, Bent says that the midfield ace could be offered a move to the midlands by Aston Villa and that he would be a good fit were he to make the move from north London.
“He’d be a great signing, just for the experience,” Bent told Football Insider.
“I’m sure he’d get a lot more game time at Aston Villa than he would at Spurs, so he could look to do that. Yeah, he’d have to move but it’s not a million miles away. Aston Villa are a big football club, ambitious as they’ve bought a lot of players.
“I think he’d fit in quite well and I think Wanyama would be a great signing, it wouldn’t surprise me if they did try to get him.”
Wanyama was used sparingly by Mauricio Pochettino during the 2018/19 campaign, having found himself sidelined through injury and the form of others in recent years.
He has made less than 100 appearances for the Lilywhites since his move from Southampton and is unlikely to get regular playing time at Spurs with the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele this summer.
